PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Description:

The seminar offers the opportunity to reflect on the topics of artificial intelligence, its application in the legal sector and the possibility of developing “cyber-law”. The need to adapt procedures and proceedings to the new functional-communicative methods imposed by information technology requires a different mentality able to deal with these new issues.  In the United States, in the criminal sector, predictive justice (justice for algorithms) is used permanently to calculate the risk of recidivism, especially in the preliminary phase of the judgment. In many EU countries this system begins to spread and artificial intelligence is considered not only a support for legal professions but, in some instances, a substitute that replaces the judge in the solution of cases. The course will explore these issues and will also focus on Article 22 of the new EU Regulation on the Protection of Personal Data, entered in force on 25 May 2018, and the first European Ethical Charter on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in judicial Systems, adopted by the CEPEJ on 3-4-December 2018. This 3-day event (4 sessions) for judges and prosecutors – foresees lectures, a debate and a round table.
