Course Description

Background:
The purpose of the European Judicial Network in civil and commercial matters is to facilitate judicial cooperation in these fields and to facilitate citizens' access to the judicial system in order to resolve civil and commercial disputes with a cross-border dimension.
These goals are achieved through national "contact points" appointed by the Member States, liaison magistrates, judges and prosecutors appointed by the Court of Cassation and the Courts of Appeal as members of the network, and other legal professionals (barristers, notaries and judicial officers, etc).

Approach:
This course will include a presentation of the European judicial area; the legal provisions relied on most frequently by the European courts, and the development of the European judicial network in civil and commercial matters within this scheme.
