Background:
This session aspires to provide judges with a legal as well as operational overview of the major issues today with respect to sustainable development and protecting the environment: climate change, protecting biodiversity, fighting industrial pollution, corporate social responsibility, efficiency of judicial intervention, etc.

These various themes will be dealt with through presentations that will remind us of the importance of international and EU judicial systems concerning the environment and will provide an update on domestic law in this area. Other presentations, concerning recent legislative provisions or current experiences, will focus on the effective implementation of environmental law by the public authorities, industrialists or the courts. An exploratory discussion will finally take place regarding the corporate social responsibility and possibly establishing nomenclature for environmental damages.

Speeches will given by university professors, researchers and environmental law practitioners, and particularly by lawyers, magistrates, public decision-makers and industrialists.

Course teaching method:
This session offers conferences and a period for discussion
between participants and speakers.
